Monica Giles is an artist from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She has taken her experiences from life thus far and created a repertoire that reflects just that. Her song choices and level of performance will give you an intimate look into the world from her eyes.

2010 was the year she met the men who helped her find her sound.
In remembrance of her roots as a musician (and also an inside joke among bandmates), the name Monica Giles and The Snake Oil Salesmen, was born.
As her career continues forward she is mostly a solo act, but will always keep the name Snake Oil Salesmen, on the occasions she reunites with her old crew.

In 2011, Giles began touring with the salesmen across Michigan. She also released her first demo album. However this initial run at a musical career was cut short when she decided to go to college. In 2014 she finished school and began to focus on her career in music.

Giles taught herself to play the guitar and piano in 2014 and later that year she began playing out on her own. Since then she has been focussed on learning and writing new material.

2016 has been the biggest year by far. Not only did Monica release her album, Paying Rent, she also began a tour of some of the biggest venues she has ever played. One of them being the Green Bay Packers Hall Of Fame.

My Debut Album: Paying Rent

From the experiences I've had so far in life, this is what I've come up with. I call it "Paying Rent" because that's exactly what I'm doing with my music.

I always knew I wanted to sing, but I constantly fought myself thinking I should focus on something more "realistic". Still, I never gave up on music. It wasn't until I hit college that I was really faced with the decision to focus on one or the other. Getting the degree to get a "real job", or getting myself a guitar and going out to actually pursue what I had only dreamt of.

So I bought a guitar, taught myself to play, and in a few months was able to do my first solo show. Since then, this is all I do and I'm loving every minute of it.

To write a song I must be inspired, so every one of my songs is from a certain time in my life. Fortunately, I have had a few experiences which helped my writing process.

I am lucky enough to have found someone in particular who has inspired a lot in me. I can't thank him enough for all he does. I wouldn't be the woman I am today without him. You are my best friend and I love you so much bud.

This album would not be possible without a lot of people and a lot of experiences. So I'll give a thank you to everyone. I wouldn't be paying my rent if it weren't for you.
